Onley wins to move into Burgos lead

Oscar Onley claimed his first victory for Netcompany INEOS in style after sprinting to the win on stage two of the Vuelta a Burgos.

The Brit was set up by strong work from his teammates on the Pineda de la Sierra climb, moving to the fore before out-sprinting Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) on the uphill drag to the line in Valle del Sol.

Victory was enough to elevate Onley into the leader's jersey, taking a four-second advantage thanks to bonus seconds and gaps back to the chasing GC contenders.

Brandon Rivera played a key role in the final kilometres, piloting Onley into position on the climb before hitting the front to set the tempo with two kilometres to go.

Throughout the day the team had maintained a strong position in the peloton, and moved to the front at the key moment to set up Onley for an impressive win.

Wednesday also saw stage three at the Tour de Pologne, with another chance for the sprinters into Zielona Góra. Sam Welsford led the team home but was unable to contest for the top positions. The race now moves into its GC phase and three back to back hilly tests.
