Sam Watson finished sixth on stage four of the Tour of Austria after spending the final 50km of the race in the breakaway.

Having tackled the two major climbs of the day in the opening 46km, a large breakaway eventually went clear just before the halfway point. The group quickly built a three minute advantage, with Peter Oxenberg, AJ August and Watson all contributing to the move.

On the Buchberg, the attacks began, with nine riders from the break forging clear, including Watson. Igor Arrieta (UAE Team Emirates - XRG) and Neilson Powless (EF Education - EasyPost) edged clear to take first and second respectively. A battle for the remaining places ensued behind, with Watson crossing the line in sixth.

Carlos Rodriguez finished with the main peloton and remains fourth overall on GC, while AJ August continues to lead the young rider classification.
