Øxenberg impresses in Guangxi finale

Peter Øxenberg launched a strong late attack on the final climb at the Tour of Guangxi, finishing seventh on stage six.

The young Dane took advantage of a lull to launch a strong acceleration with 1.6 kilometres to go on the decisive NongLa climb. Opening out a gap, the Netcompany INEOS rider looked good but was ultimately reeled in with just 350 metres to go. Øxenberg held on for seventh on the summit finish, ending his first full professional season on a high.

The team had arrived to the fore on the approach to the climb, with Sam Welsford and Artem Shmidt leading their teammates into position. Kevin Vauquelin hit the front early on, eventually finishing 13th overall. The final results were enough to ensure the team claimed the Team GC prize at the end of the race.

At the line it was Jarno Widar (Lotto Intermarche) who prevailed, taking the final stage and the overall victory in China.
