Dorian Godon stormed to a powerful sprint victory at the Gran Premio del Lazio, rounding off a successful week of racing in Italy.
The Frenchman powered to the victory with an impressive sprint from the bunch, accelerating in the final few hundred metres to take the win by half a bike length.
It was an attacking race, with an early break of five riders building a four-minute lead before being caught in the final stages.
Netcompany INEOS showed fantastic teamwork throughout, with huge pulls from Ben Swift and Connor Swift helping to bring the break back, before Peter Oxenberg put the hammer down in the closing stages.
A flurry of attacks came in the final 10km, with riders going clear, but a strong chase from Ben Swift ensured it was all together heading into the final kilometre.
As the peloton entered the Flamme Rouge, the race was still wide open, with an aggressive run-in to the finish as Godon unleashed his speed in the final few hundred metres to take victory.

Speaking after the win, he said:
“It was a hard day, with a lot of attacks. We tried to control it, and Peter was super strong for catching the breakaway. The team tried to stay together for the sprint.
“The last two kilometres, I had to follow the move, and I was blocked a bit before the sprint, but I’m super happy. I was close to the win two times in Abruzzo and I didn’t like it, so it’s nice to finish one week in Italy with the win.
“It’s my sixth win this year, five WorldTour wins. It’s never easy to ride as the favourite and I’m super happy to win again two months after a big crash at the Tour de France. I enjoy Italy!”
