Mattie Dodd unleashed a superb attacking performance to claim a solo victory on stage four at the Ronde de l’Isard.
The 21 year old claimed his first win for the team’s Racing Academy after launching a gutsy attack with 23-kilometres to go. A move of 16 riders had gone clear, with Dodd the first to crest the Cote du Pal climb.
Dodd was able to quickly open out a gap of around 15 seconds, but then saw that advantage stretch out over his fellow breakaway members and the peloton on the run into Le Mas d’Azil – eventually winning by 47 seconds.
Present in the peloton which followed 1:27 back, Max Hinds retained a good GC foothold ahead of Sunday’s undulating finale. Hinds holds 12th overall, with plenty of scope to move up the leaderboard on the final day.
🗣️ "I looked at [the stage] yesterday and said I really want to go for this one."
