Shmidt wins soaking Classique Dunkerque

Artem Shmidt claimed a memorable solo victory in soaking wet conditions at Classique Dunkerque.

The young American launched a brave attack heading into the final 14 kilometres and opened out a winning margin on the run back into Mont-Saint-Eloi.

Shmidt had chance to enjoy the first win of the Netcompany INEOS era as he crossed the line four seconds ahead of the chasing pack. The success also marked his first pro road race victory.

Kim Heiduk came home seventh on a day which saw the team enliven the run in amid wet and windy conditions.
